PENNVEST approves loan to Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority

HARRISBURG, Nov. 15, 2000 -- The board of the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) has approved a low-interest loan amounting to $1,475,000 for improvements to wastewater services in Luzerne County, according to State Sen. Raphael J. Musto, a member of the board.

"This investment will make major modifications to the wastewater system of the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority," Musto said.

"Improvements such as these go a long way toward assuring our citizens that services which we all take for granted are being handled in a safe manner and according to the latest environmental requirements," Musto said.

The loan will be used to upgrade the headworks of the wastewater system. Existing pumps are unable to lift the wastewater from the wet well to the rest of the treatment facility. The project will indirectly benefit approximately 212,000 persons in 36 communities.
