Musto, Yudichak Outline Broody Tire Clean-Up Plans

(Aug 30, 2002) – State Senator Raphael Musto (D-Pittston) and State Representative John Yudichak (D-Nanticoke) today reviewed Department of Environmental Protection’s plans with Edwardsville Borough officials in the aftermath of the Broody Tire fire. The current focus of DEP’ s efforts revolves around an immediate removal of burned tires and mosquito control on the property.

"I am extremely pleased DEP will have all of the burned tires removed from the property and also remove any soil contaminated by the residue from the fire" explained Musto. Under an emergency contract, DEP will have all tires damaged by the fire removed from the Broody site.

Discussing the mosquito control effort, Yudichak expressed his satisfaction with plans to minimize any potential risk. "In light of nationwide and regional concerns related to mosquitoes and the West Nile virus, I am pleased to receive confirmation DEP intends to have the remaining tires and surrounding property sprayed in an effort to dramatically reduce the possible transmission of this serious disease to area residents," outlined Yudichak.

Both legislators praised the numerous local firefighters, Edwardsville Chief Ray King and Edwardsville Borough officials for their coordinated and efficient response to the fire. "Thorough planning and professional execution of those plans resulted in the containment and quick extinguishing of this fire," stressed both Musto and Yudichak.
