MUSTO COMMENDS HAZLETON CHAMBER
Hazleton, PA April 20, 2000
State Senator Ray Musto has hailed a local chamber of commerce's environmental efforts.
In a senate resolution, Senator Musto recognized the work of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce on a wide range of environmental projects. The commemoration comes during the celebration of Earth Day, April 22, 2000.
"The Chamber has consistently shown an interest in preserving our natural resources," said Musto, who is Democratic chairman of the senate's Environmental Resources and Energy Committee.
"The chamber, under the leadership of executive director Jim Boyle, continues to demonstrate a spirit of cooperation in achieving the success of a project. It shows that the business sector and those interested in the environment can work together to get results."
According to Musto, the Hazleton chamber was a leader in calling for the completion of mine reclamation projects in the Greater Hazleton area. The projects helped to identify and reclaim mined areas which posed a serious health and safety threat to residents, he said.
The chamber was also involved in the analysis, development and design of Nescopeck State Park, its unique environmental education center and recreational facilities.
In addition, the chamber is a local sponsor of the Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful cleanup effort, which enlists 2,000 volunteers to remove litter from area roadsides.
The resolution will be incorporated into the General Assembly's Earth Day celebration and the document will be entered into the public record of the Legislature.
