SENATOR MUSTO ANNOUNCES GRANTS FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS AND CITIES

HARRISBURG, June 13, 2001

State Sen. Raphael J. Musto, D-Luzerne has announced grants for local schools and cities totaling nearly $1.3 million to fund community and education improvements.

According to Musto, two local school districts were chosen as grant recipients. Wyoming Valley West School District was awarded a $375,000 technology grant to strengthen professional development and classroom instruction. Wyoming Area School District received a "Growing Greener" grant for $16,675 for a remote monitoring system for the Sarah Dymond School that will allow an operator to adjust the treatment process from another location.

The senator also reported two Community Development Block Grants were awarded, one to Nanticoke City in the amount of $473,003 and one to Pittston City in the amount of $432,414. He said the funds will pay for improvements in the two cities.

"I am thrilled to announce state funding for these worthy endeavors in Luzerne County," said Musto. "I believe education and the environment should be two of our highest priorities."
