Senator Musto was principal speaker on Flag Day at Exeter’s new Veterans Monument, which was erected in front of the borough’s new municipal building on Wyoming Avenue.   The new monument honors the 31 borough residents who were killed during wartime military service. Another monument, located near the new one, was dedicated in 1943 to all borough veterans who served in the nation’s wars.

A large crowd attended the ceremony. Senator Musto thanked all the officials, committee members, residents, veterans’ organizations and individuals who contributed hard work and dedication to the project.

“Today we say to all veterans, we will never forget your sacrifices for the cause of freedom,” the lawmaker said. “You see the names contained on this monument. Many families of these individuals still reside in Exeter. We want to be sure that, as time passes, they will never be forgotten; that their memory will live on in their community."

“We have a great tradition in this country. We must continue to hold in high esteem the men and women who take up arms on our behalf.” Senator Musto

“In constructing these monuments, we show our compassion. We know we stand here today because of the actions of others, people who stood up for this nation’s ideals, for us. We know that basic truth. We design and build these structures because that’s the kind of people we are. It’s what America is all about. We are a compassionate people.
